The HPH company which operates the box terminal at the Tanzanian port of Dar es Salaam is investing $30 million in container-handling equipment and facility upgrades.

Tanzania International Container Terminal Services (TICTS) ordered four rubber-tyred gantry cranes (RTGs), ten terminal trucks and two reach stackers, which are expected to be delivered by September.

The equipment will join two ship-to-shore cranes (STS) with an option for remote control operations and three hybrid RTGs ordered from ZPMC at the beginning of this year.

TICTS, a member of Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH), is also re-paving the yard surface and installing a shunt capacitor to deal with the unstable power supply from the national grid.

By September, the Dar es Salaam container terminal will be equipped with seven quay cranes, 19 RTGs, nine reach stackers and 49 tractors.
