Eleven missing after ships collide off Hong Kong

Eleven people are missing after a Chinese cargo ship collided with a MOL container vessel near Hong Kong waters today, a Hong Kong Marine Department spokesman confirmed to Port Finance International.

One person was rescued as the small Chinese vessel sank, the spokesman said.

The Zhong Xing 2, which was carrying cement, was proceeding from China’s Hebei province. The container vessel, MOL Motivator, was on way to Yantian port in southern China. It is said to be slightly damaged.

Chinese authorities are continuing rescue efforts.
