Diesel-LNG powered reach stacker

The prototype for a reach stacker fuelled by both diesel and liquefied natural gas (LNG) is expected to be ready at the end of this month, Kalmar announced today. The dual-power machine is scheduled to be demonstrated on December 4th at the port of Livorno, Italy.

This is one of the pilots of the Greencranes project. Co-financed by the European Union, the project also looks at other technologies, such as the electrification of rubber-tyred gantry cranes (RTGs). Each pilot is tested in one of the three participating ports: Valencia (Spain), Koper (Slovenia) or Livorno (Italy).

Global Service, an equipment rental company based in Livorno, is a member of the Greencranes project consortium. It signed a partnership agreement with Kalmar, part of Finnish manufacturer Cargotec.

A Kalmar reach stacker is being adapted to dual fuel motorisation. The manufacturer said this Monday that the prototype is expected to be ready at the end of October. It added that a public demonstration will take place on December 4th at the port of Livorno.
