Bollore and Maersk-funded Abidjan terminal

A planned new container terminal at the Port of Abidjanbe will receive €400m from Bollore Group with additional investment from Maersk.

The deputy CEO of Bollore Transport and Logistics said work is expected to begin in summer 2019 and the new terminal should be operational from June 2020, according to Reuters.

"We start in June or July 2019," Philippe Labonne told Reuters. "It's a question of building a platform and setting up the port equipment."

Bolloré Ports is a majority shareholder of the port's existing Abidjan Terminal, which it operates as a joint venture with Societe Exploitation Terminal de Vridi (SETV).

Port authorities are already developing the canal leading to the port to a depth of 16m, to enable larger ships to dock, Mr Labonne reportedly commented.

Located in Treichville, in southern Abidjan, Port of Abidjan is a major contributor to the economy of Ivory Coast.

According to the Ivoirian Ministry of Economy and Finance, traffic through the port contributes to 90% of the customs revenues of Ivory Coast and 60% of the country's income.
