Morgan Stanley sells Montreal Gateway Terminals

Financial services firm Morgan Stanley has sold Montreal Gateway Terminals (MGT) to a consortium of investors that aim to turn the port into an international hub.

Led by Fiera Axium Infrastructure the consortium also comprises Canada II L.P., Desjardins Group, Manulife, Fonds de solidarité FTQ and Industrial Alliance. It will purchase MGT from  Morgan Stanley Infrastructure Partners (MSIP) for an undisclosed amount.

The team worked closely with management on many initiatives, and Montreal Gateway Terminals is today a very efficient company providing customer service at the highest quality level.” said John Watt, Head of Asset Management for MSIP

MGT manages Canada’s second largest cargo container facility, located at the Port of Montreal, and handled around 800,000 TEU last year.

“Our consortium is comprised of partners with a long-term investment horizon and vested interests in the economic development of Greater Montreal, Quebec and Canada,” said Stéphane Mailhot, chief operating officer of Fiera Axium Infrastructure which leads the consortium comprising Canada II L.P., Desjardins Group, Manulife, Fonds de solidarité FTQ and Industrial Alliance

The port connects with several major European ports and is well connected by rail and highway networks to North American markets. It also provides transhipment for services linking to Southeast Asia, the Middle-East and Latin America.
