Oman tenders for management and operation of country’s first dry port

The Government of Oman has launched a Request for Expressions of Interest (EOI) for the lease to operate and manage the country’s first dry port. Located in the South Al Batinah Logistics Area (SABLA) the project is designed to position the Sultanate as a logistics gateway for the Gulf and Middle East region.

“A successful bidder is expected to be awarded a licence for the lease and operation of this inland port facility during this year,” Ahmed bin Said al Azkawi, project manager for the development said.

The planned site will eventually cover 120 hectares and, once complete, is designed to position the Sultanate as a logistics gateway for the Gulf and Middle East region.

Registration of interest by February 1

Interested companies are requested to contact the authorities via the government's website at www.peie.com by February 1 to register and receive the EOI document, with submissions due by February 15.

“With customs bonded services, ample capacity, and eventual connectivity with the Muscat- Batinah Expressway and GCC rail, the dry port will be ideally positioned to serve the needs of the shippers and logistics services providers,” Azkawi added.

An initial phase of work will also include logistics support facilities, such as administration buildings, truck service centres, restaurants and office space.

Interested parties are requested to direct any questions or seek further information from the project's advisor - Brad Julian at Julian Associates.
