Ibiza to open new cruise and ferry terminal in June

16/05/2012 THE first berth of a new (€90m) $110m cruise and ro-pax terminal at Ibiza will open in June, the Port Authority of the Balearic Islands, (APB) said on Wednesday.

The APB is investing €90m is the construction of the terminal and a maritime station at Botafoc at the entrance of the port of Ibiza.

It will have a total of 5 berths for cruise ships and ro-pax ferries.

APB Director, Jorge Nasarre, told PFI, that  APB was financing the works.

Income from marina ports and yachts generates sufficient capital each year to finance works for commercial shipping and port investments in the Balearic Islands, Nasarre said.

APB also receives more than it gives in the pool of Spain’s national ports fund.

Spanish construction company Ferrovial won a tender to build  terminal works at Botafoc in 2009.

A further tender may be launched for a new maritime passenger station,  Mr Nasarre said.
