CMA CGM inaugurates second container platform in Dakar

The CMA CGM Group is to inaugurate tomorrow a second container platform in Dakar. The French shipping line says that the Terminal Conteneurs Dakar 2 (TCD2) will consolidate its position in Senegal, where its subsidiary Delmas has been present for eight years.

TCD2 will enhance the capacity of TCD1, operated by CMA CGM since February 2011. The Marseilles-based carrier says that this will allow it to offer new logistical services to its clients.

Both platforms will regroup full and empty bonded container storage activities, local deliveries (10 tractors and 30 trailers), stuffing and unstuffing, transit, railway and road transport, notably to Mali, as well as a 64 plugs reefer zone.

CMA CGM operates three weekly services connecting Dakar directly to main European ports and the Tangier hub. By offering door-to-door transport organisation, and services such as reefer plugging, it hopes to reinforce its position in the growing Senegalese market.

In another press release published this Wednesday, CMA CGM explains that 2014 will be the year of its African ambition.

Last month, its subsidiary CMA Terminals signed an agreement for a 25% stake in Lekki Terminal, in Nigeria.

Also in January, the world’s third largest container shipping company launched of a new feeder service dedicated to Mozambican ports, the Rhino Express. And it started a new service linking its Khor Fakkan to Somalia, the Noura Express.

This month, besides inaugurating the TCD2 in Dakar, it will open two new agencies in Mauritania, in Nouakchott and Nouadibhou.
